  • The department has partnered with more community mental health organizations

  • New training requirements have also been added for officers when working with at-risk individuals

More than 630 agencies across the country have taken the One Mind Campaign Pledge.

By completing it, the university's police department has partnered with more community mental health organizations and implemented new training requirements when working with at-risk individuals.

“It is extremely imperative especially as we deal with our student population, those individuals who are leaving their home for the first time or just going through transitions in life, and our officers being there as a resource for them not just from an enforcement perspective," said University of Dayton's Police Chief Savalas Kidd.

With the additional training, officers will have a quick connection to a list of care providers and will be able to assess risks and make referrals.
