CLEVELAND — If you’re a parent looking for a night out without the kids, finding a babysitter may cost you more than you bargained for.

According to UrbanSitter, babysitting rates are up across the United States, and in areas like Cleveland, it’s much worse.

“It’s crazy,” said Arian May, a northeast Ohio resident and mom to two little girls.

Finding a good babysitter, she said, is hard to come by.

“It’s been a lot of trial and error,” she said.

Paying for a babysitter is just as hard for May and millions of parents across the county.

“Everything adds up very quickly,” said May.

According to UrbanSitter, the average babysitting rate for one child in 2022 was up nearly 10% from the year before.

The rate increase for one child in Cleveland in 2022 was much worse. According to UrbanSitter, it was up around 25% from the year prior.

“It really takes a chunk out of your budget,” said May.

According to UrbanSitter, Cleveland's average hourly babysitting rate for one child was $19.20 an hour last year, up from $15.42 an hour the previous year.

Meanwhile, the national average babysitting rate was $22.68 an hour for one child in 2022
