The U.S. Food and Drug Administration published documents on Monday that include a proposal to recommend an annual COVID-19 booster shot for most adults and children. In doing so, the FDA seeks to simplify the vaccination process and avoid confusion over timing for scheduling boosters. An FDA advisory panel will meet on Thursday to discuss vaccine strategy.

Spectrum News spoke with Dr. Carl Fichtenbaum of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine about the proposed plan. 

"I think it makes perfect sense from a public health perspective," said Fichtenbaum. "You really need to be able to create something that makes sense for people, and annual vaccinations are things that people can get and what we really have to do is get to the point where people are protecting themselves from the most serious consequences of COVID infection."
