CINCINNATI — Details about a new demolition project in southwest Ohio were shared Dec. 12 as part of a statewide initiative to clean up blighted properties.

The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority gave a closer look at what the future may hold for these sites.
The Port Authority received $17 million from the state to demolish 57 sites around Hamilton County. Among them—the Carrousel Inn and Suites and Drake Motel in Sycamore Township.
The Port Authority bought the property last year with plans to demolish it and build a new site to bring in better jobs.
“We’ve been working on this since we got it a year ago and we’re making progress towards actually getting boots on the ground to start remediating,” said Todd Castellini, The Port public finance and industrial development vice president.
Clearing out the asbestos in the buildings is the first task the port is working on. Demolition is expected to be finished within six months.
