CANTON, Ohio — Republican Madison Gesiotto Gilbert did not gain enough votes to represent Ohio’s 13th Congressional District in the 2022 midterm elections.

The Republican candidate conceded to Emilia Sykes, a woman who serves as an Ohio state representative and comes from a well-known political family in northeast Ohio, at a watch party that was held in North Canton on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022.

In her speech, Gesiotto Gilbert said this loss was not a surprise, but thanked her followers for their continued support.

“We would not be here without all of you. From the very beginning, so many of you stepped up to help us get to this point. This is obviously not the result we were expecting or hoping for tonight. But the fight goes on,” Gesiotto Gilbert said.

 Gesiotto Gilbert’s concession comes at the end of a highly competitive race for the newly-drawn district. Gesiotto Gilbert’s bid was her first attempt at running for office. The former Miss Ohio USA works as an attorney and has served as a political commentator in the past. She was endorsed by many prominent republican figures like President Donald Trump and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

She ran on a platform that promoted support for small businesses and working families. Gesiotto Gilbert is a business owner and a new mom herself. She gave birth to her son, Marcus Gilbert Jr., back in the fall. She shares her son with her husband, former NFL player Marcus Gilbert.

In addition to issues that impact families and the economy, Gesiotto Gilbert was also a vocal supporter of energy independence, securing the southern border, and took an antiabortion stance.

She reminded her supporters that she will continue to stay involved and fight for the values that she cares about.
