Republican incumbent Steve Chabot lost to Cincinnati City Council member Greg Landsman.

Chabot conceded to Landsman near midnight on Tuesday

Chabot said he believes a big part of the decision came down to redistricting. District 1 now includes the entire City of Cincinnati, which leans more Democratic, which ended up being the edge Landsman needed.

Chabot said he’ll miss serving the people of Cincinnati and is proud of many of his accomplishments, including protecting unborn children and veterans. He said he knew it would be a tough race to win.

“It was a nine-point Biden district," Chabot said. "It went from being a three-point Trump district to a nine-point Biden district. It was the toughest Republican-held seat in the entire country outside of California. There were three tougher seats in California, but in the other 49 states, this was the toughest. I thought we could overcome that, and we almost did, but we didn’t. Mr. Landsman won fair and square.”

Chabot said he’s not sure what’s next for him, but will continue to be a proud citizen of Cincinnati and continue to support his community in any way he can.
