CINCINNATI — Just a few weeks ago Cincinnati Police Department had its Law Enforcement Blitz, a week of cracking down on reckless driving. On Tuesday, CPD revealed those results with Cincinnati’s Public Safety & Governance Committee.
There were more than 550 traffic violations and nearly 60 arrests made. Speeding was the largest traffic issue, with nearly 300 citations issued.
Also, 30% of the drivers stopped didn’t have a valid driver's license. Cincinnati Interim Police Chief Teresa Theetge said the purpose of initiative was to focus on traffic enforcement.
“Post pandemic, I think everybody, whether you’re in law enforcement or not, you’ve probably seen some erratic driving,” said Theetge. “It has escalated and so it was time to work for us to work with the communities to say this is how to be a responsible driver."
Overall, she said the blitz went well and was impressed with the positive community feedback and interaction. CPD has plans of doing the blitz again, but it is uncertain when it will be.
