AKRON, Ohio — In Akron, voters will see Issue 10 on the ballot, a community initiative for a citizen police oversight board. 
 

The Freedom BLOC, a community activist organization in Akron, played a major role in getting Issue 10 on the ballot. They collected thousands of signatures and had enough certified to put the issue before voters. 

What You Need To Know

  • October 11th is the last day Ohioans can register to vote in November's election

  • Early voting starts on October 12th 

  • The last day to vote is November 8th 

Andrew Myers is a canvasser for The Freedom BLOC and has spent most of his summer hitting the pavement in Akron getting the community registered to vote. 

“We are just going through here and making sure that everyone is updated on their voter registration,” Myers said. “At the end of the day, we are trying to make a change and you have to be the change you want to see.” 

Myers said while he registers people to vote, he has been giving them information on Issue 10. 

“We are trying to get a nine member citizens review board to make sure we can monitor the police investigations,” he explained. “What I’ve been telling people lately is if we can get 10,000 people to march, but only six to vote, that kind of ratio doesn’t make sense and the people who lead that march are saying nothing happened, but that’s because y’all came to march, but you didn’t come to write your hand down. You will do excessive energy but won’t do the positive stuff. Talk about fighting back, but this is how you do it firsthand.” ​
