CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio—School spirit is something Lucy Kaczmar said she takes seriously.
“Right now, I’m making a sign for the pep rally that we have coming up,” Kaczmar said.
The president of Walsh Jesuit High School’s student body said she and other members have been preparing for Homecoming since last year.
“Homecoming is a big deal to us in student government because it really brings the student body together,” Kaczmar said.
The senior said Homecoming week is filled with traditions and themed days.
“One of the main reasons that we do spirit week and choose the themes throughout spirit week is to get the students excited,” Kaczmar said.
One of the dress up days this year is Adam Sandler themed. It’s the reason Kaczmar wore baggy clothing to classes.
“The reason we chose the Adam Sandler theme was because it's really trendy right now,” Kaczmar said.
Jack Cerone, another student government leader, added that spirit week ends with a major match up against Lake Catholic High School on the football field and the big dance.
“So the student body is very excited for this game on Friday because it is one of our few games against our conference, which is the Crown Conference,” Cerone said.
He admitted expectations are high for the team.
“After all the success they had last year, and we're looking to keep that momentum rolling,” Cerone said.
Kaczmar said she’s looking for the Warriors to win on and off the field. She hopes to lead events that are memorable and safe.
“It's a big deal to me to lead Homecoming this year because in the previous years, when dealing with COVID, we didn't have the opportunity to have dances or events where we can bring the spirit together," Kaczmar said. "So it's important to me, and the rest of student government, to make it the best year yet and to make it the most positive for everyone, safely."
Ultimately, she said the goal of the student government is to build community and connection.
“Community is a big deal for us because it follows our mission to be men and women for and with others,” Kaczmar said.
