- Pumpkinville sees the most sales after the first week of October
Creighton Louis knows all about these seasonal fruits, as he is the owner of Pumpkinville in the Cleveland suburb of Kirtland.
Pumpkinville has been a tradition in northeast Ohio for 55 years.
“It started when I was 12,” Louis said. “It’s something that grew into this, instead of just a pick-up truck load of pumpkins.”
Even though Louis has been selling pumpkins for the last five decades, he said every year can be different for the crop.
“Some years they are kind of ‘eh,’ ” Louis said. “This year seems to be pretty good, if I can keep the critters out of them. That’s the big thing, the critters eat them.”
Louis said most of his customers visit after the first week of October.
“This is just the start,” he said. “We will refill and keep going.”
He said he has no idea how many thousands of pumpkins he has sold over the years, but he always remembers the look on people's faces when visiting Pumpkinville.
“We meet a lot of interesting people. It’s just a lot of fun sometimes,” he said. “It’s a lot of work but a lot of fun.“
Louis said he plans to continue running Pumpkinville for as long as he can.
