CLEVELAND — After a nation-wide search, the board of the MetroHealth system announced Thursday they have selected Dr. Airica Steed as the new president and CEO of Metro Health.

Steed will take over as CEO effective Jan. 1, 2023.

What You Need To Know

  • Dr. Airica Steed will succeed Dr. Akram Boutros, who announced late last year he would be stepping down

  • Boutros served as President and CEO for eight years

  • Steed admitted she has big shoes to fill but said she has what it takes to move MetroHealth towards the future

  • Steed was Executive Vice President of Sinai Chicago Health System and President of Mount Sinai and Sinai Children's Hospital

Steed began her career as a nurse and comes from a hospital system that, like MetroHealth, focuses on health equity and eradicating health disparities.

She will take over as MetroHealth moves towards completion of its nearly $1 billion renovation that includes the new Glick Center and a reimagined main campus.

Steed currently serves as the executive vice president of Sinai Chicago Health System and president of Mount Sinai and Sinai Children's Hospital.

While Steed admitted she has large shoes to fill, she said she is humbled to take on a position that oversees one of Cleveland’s major hospital systems.

“I am so, so humbled by this this opportunity that I consider to be a privilege of a lifetime and truly just warms my heart of knowing the great future ahead for MetroHealth,” said Steed.
