AKRON, Ohio — Senior Andrew Griffith said banging a drum followed by a clap is a tradition.
“Since I was a freshman I was up there, but just carrying on the tradition, and it’s just, it's a fun thing to have," Griffith said.
He’s now one of several seniors who run the student section at Archbishop Hoban games. He said this is a commitment, but it’s worth it.
“It’s another good thing to have just to bring us closer together as a student body," he said.
Senior Khori Davis is passing on a chant to the next group of seniors.
“Through the years I remember learning it my freshman year, and this year we continued by teaching it to the freshmen," Davis said.
They have about 50 students involved in the student section. Around ten "superfans" are assigned to every fall sport, but Griffith is one of a few who goes to every fall game.
“Our superfan thing is kinda serious," Griffith said. "We take celebrating and being there for our teammates seriously."
