The parade, now in its 50th year, started at the corner of East 146th Street and Kinsman Road and wrapped up at Luke Easter Park.

The yearly event celebrates community and political empowerment.

Aside from the parade, the day’s festivities also included food, vendors, live music and games.

“We do things out here in the community. We make things happen,” said Joy Fletcher, who turned out to watch the parade. “There’s so many bad things going on, so this is a happy time.”

Congresswoman Shontel Brown served as the Grand Marshal of this year’s parade.
