A Dictionary of African American English is being developed by Oxford University Press and the Harvard University Hutchins Center for African American Research as part of a three-year project with Henry Louis Gates Jr. as the editor-in-chief.

The project is being partially funded by the Mellon and Wagner Foundations, and an announcement on the Oxford English Dictionary website is currently taking word suggestions.

Dr. Michelle O'Malley, an associate professor of instruction in linguistics at Ohio University, joined Spectrum News to discuss the dictionary more in-depth.
