CLEVELAND — Two northeast Ohio nonprofits, The Haven Home and the Ashbury Senior Computer Community Center, received grants from Spectrum on July 14.​ The donations aim to support each organization's mission. 

The Haven Home is on the campus of Elizabeth Baptist Church and serves the Cuyahoga County community in a variety of ways, including efforts to eliminate housing insecurity, improve health care and promote educational opportunities for children and their parents.

Spectrum donated $7,500 and 10 Chromebooks to The Haven Home through the company’s national community philanthropic program, Spectrum Employee Community Grants.  

“I am thrilled to be back here in Cleveland today,” said Rahman Khan, vice president of community impact for Charter Communications. “Through Spectrum Employee Community Grants, we’re proud to provide support to vital community organizations with which our local employees are already volunteering their time and talent.”

Pastor Richard Gibson, board chair of The Haven Home, said the grant was instrumental to the organization’s operations.

“This grant is huge for us because it helps us to continue the services, the operations,” said Gibson. “It also allows us to hone in some educational needs that the children as well as the moms have — in digital connectivity — because if they’re trying to connect for jobs or health care appointments or for things that involve their children for education—what Spectrum is doing through this grant helps in all of those areas.”

The Ashbury Senior Computer Community Center (ASC3) received a $40,000 Spectrum Digital Education Grant for continuation of its Digital Aviator Program, as part of its five-year, $7 million commitment to digital education in Spectrum communities across the country.

Wanda Davis, executive director of the ASC3, highlighted the significance of the grant.

“It means everything for the community center,” said Davis. “ASC3 will be able to continue to its mission—which is self empowerment, digital inclusion and equity.”

“Through this partnership with ASC3, the Spectrum Digital Education program is able to bring essential resources to those in need, and we look forward to working with them on this transformative project,” said Khan. 

Charter sponsors several philanthropic programs besides Spectrum Digital Education. 

Spectrum Employee Community Grants has awarded funding to more than 325 local nonprofits in 31 states throughout the company’s service area since its inception in July 2019.
