CLEARCREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio  — A Clearcreek Police Officer who responded to a domestic violence call at a southwestern Ohio home Tuesday night, was shot and critically wounded by a man who was then shot and killed by another officer, authorities said.

Officials said Officer Eric Ney, a 14-year veteran of the force, remains in critical but stable condition at Miami Valley Hospital, according to a release from the Clearcreek Police Department. 

Police were called to the home near Lebanon approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, because a man was reportedly ramming his wife’s car with an all-terrain vehicle, authorities said. Police said they had responded to multiple domestic violence calls at the location in the past.

When the officers arrived, they spoke with the suspect. According to police, during the conversation, the suspect, who was on an ATV, jumped off and fired at the officers.

Police said the sergeant who was with the officer at the time of the shooting shot and killed the suspect.

No other injuries were reported in the shooting.

The department will have a joint press conference with Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell at the Clearcreek Township Government Center at 2 p.m. on Thursday. Audio and footage will be shared at the conference. 

Both the man who was killed and the name of the sergeant who shot him have not been released.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting.
