CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson settled 20 out of 24 lawsuits against him, according to Attorney Tony Buzbee.

What You Need To Know

  • Four of the plaintiffs, including the first to file, will continue to pursue their cases

  • The details of settlements are unknown at this time as paperwork gets finalized, Buzbee said

  • The NFL continues its investigation into Watson to determine whether he broke the league's personal conduct policy

Buzbee, the attorney representing the women who filed the lawsuits, released a statement Tuesday.

"We are working through the paperwork related to those settlements," the statement said in part. "Once we have done so, those particular cases will be dismissed. The terms and amounts of the settlements are confidential. We won't comment further on the settlements or those cases."

Since March 2021, the women filed 25 lawsuits against Watson, alleging sexual misconduct and inappropriate behavior during massage therapy sessions. One has been dropped since then.

The Browns acquired Watson, 26, in March from the Houston Texans after a grand jury announced it wouldn't indict Watson on criminal charges. It was the second time a grand jury declined to indict him.

Despite these decisions, the National Football League continues its investigation into Watson, debating whether he violated the league's personal conduct policy, which could result in suspension.

The lawsuits settled does not include the one filed by Ashley Solis, the first plaintiff to file.

“The cases against Deshaun Watson started with one phone call, from one brave and strong woman,” Buzbee said. “That woman was Ashley Solis. At the time of that call she was just one of the hundreds of calls seeking legal assistance that our firm gets weekly. Even though she was originally turned away by our screening process, my staff insisted that I personally speak with her. I’m glad she persisted."

Buzbee added Solis and the three other plaintiffs continue to move forward in their cases.

Watson denied the allegations last week.

“I never assaulted anyone,” Watson said after a team practice as the Browns hosted mandatory minicamp. “I never harassed anyone or I never disrespected anyone. I never forced anyone to do anything.”
