OHIO — As the price of most things is rising, there are many people who need help to pay their utility bills.

What You Need To Know

  • Utility bills will rise this summer, just as the price of gas and many other necessities have

  • There are resources to help pay these bills for people who need it

  • Resources include the Ohio Home Energy Program and Percentage of Income Payment Plan Plus.

Kathy Rush-Parsson, Director of Human Services for Broadview Heights, helps people find the right programs that can assist them in paying their bills.

“It’s helpful for somebody to come in and talk with us because we can help them filter through what’s the appropriate program,” she said.

There will be a rise in electric and air conditioning bills this summer, so she expects there being more people calling her office.

“People are having to choose between paying their gas bill and putting gas in their car," she said. "We definitely anticipate more people contacting human services for assistance."

Wade Cramer is the Assistant Director of Human Services for Broadview Heights. He and Parsson primarily do work for residents in the Broadview Heights area, but he said there are more resources like theirs that can help.

“The United Way 2-1-1 that people can call and to ask for this kind of information, savings on utility bills, so that’s awesome for the state of Ohio,” he said.

Other resources include the Ohio Home Energy Program and Percentage of Income Payment Plan Plus.
