HILLIARD, Ohio — A neighbor saw a need and took action to help support a family in her community. When Beth Tosco found out she wasn’t eligible to register to be a stem cell donor, she found another way to support her neighbors.

What You Need To Know

  • Beth Tosco wanted to help those needing stem cell donations
  • She organized a stem cell donation drive for a neighbor with leukemia
  • Tosco’s goal is to help people understand how a plasma draw can help lives

“My little two-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter and I were out playing when we met the new neighbors,” said Tosco. “In March, Holly came by crying, ‘Peyton’s cancer is back.’ I had to do something.”

Peyton, 8, has leukemia, and he’s been in the hospital since March.

He is the reason Tosco organized a stem cell donor registration drive March 14.

“If we can get people to understand it’s a plasma draw and it can save a life, that’s my goal,” Tosco said as she worked during the event.

Her family also works to help others in the community.

“It is very important to her to help that family out, so we are here to support her and, by extension, Peyton,” said Tosco’s son-in-law, James.
