CLEVELAND — Ricky Smith had never operated a food truck before this year, but the comedian and writer dreamed of a unique way to fund his nonprofit endeavor.

What You Need To Know

  • The Really Amazing Food Truck operates in Cleveland on Friday and Saturday nights

  • The truck operates with guests paying what they can

  • Proceeds fund R.A.K.E. or Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere

Smith’s brainchild, The Really Amazing Food Truck, operates Friday and Saturday nights outside The Farm, a bar in downtown Cleveland.

Diners pay as much or as little as they can afford, and the proceeds benefit R.A.K.E., Smith’s nonprofit organization aimed at spreading kindness.

R.A.K.E. is an acronym for Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere.

“I just try to hopefully inspire and motivate people that, you know, you don’t need much to just simply make the world a better place,” he said. “So far my city has been behind it, it’s been great.”

Smith hopes other organizations catch on to his idea and create food trucks with a similar concept.

“It’s mobile fun. We wrapped it purposefully,” he said. “You see, we didn’t put the food, so we could change the menu as we need to be, but that’s the fun of it.”

The food truck opened in April. Smith hopes to add a DJ to create a party atmosphere, and to travel to different locations and events in the future.
