Activities included family game nights, crafts, scavenger hunts and live musical performances, but local branch representatives said there is also something new for the community to discover.

“A lot of the programs here are really inspired by our patrons and often they assist with facilitating some of the programs, as well participating in them,” said Marina Marquez, manager at the East 131st Street branch.

Tahia Herd and Eleanore Dees attended the “Let’s Celebrate Spring! Seed Library and Starter Pots” event Wednesday.

The two women are members of the First Street Coalition, a community beautification group, and a partner to the East 131st Street branch.

“Children come in here. They’re trying new things, they’re making things, they’re talking and discussing about things,” said Dees.

Whether it’s books, music, internet access or classes for a new hobby, Cleveland Public Library personnel want to show how libraries bring learning to life.

“When you’re looking at a book on the screen,” said Herd. “It’s different than holding the book, the different papers, the different fonts, you get lost in the book rather than if someone’s calling you or you click over there, it’s like creating a world here.”
