DAYTON, Ohio – If you're looking to hit the bike trails this winter but not looking forward to the cold, snow and other unfavorable conditions, an indoor bike park and full-service shop in Dayton is the perfect spot.
Mike's Indoor Bike Park was opened in 2016 by former teacher and cycling enthusiast Mike Bisig.
“Ohio weather was not condusive to me riding my bike year-round,” said Bisig. “I had to build a place so that I could do that.”
Featuring 50,000 square feet of indoor cycling space, Mike's Indoor Bike Park is the first of its kind for the city. Bisig said the goal is for riders of all ages and skill levels to find an area of the park that works for them. A color-coding system, arrows and divided track spaces provide a beginner-friendly experience while still catering to the pros.
“I want everybody to be able to ride this park,” said Bisig. “I want grandpa and grandma to be able to come in and ride. I want mom and dad to be able to ride. I want them all to be able to ride with the kids in one spot.”
The park's many features include a full-service shop, a foam pit, a pump track and an arcade featuring more than 1,000 games.
“When it's busy here, you can actually have a beginner working with a pro,” said Bisig. “They work together and feed off each other and then at the end of the day everybody is happy, learning new things, and having a good time.”
Mike's Indoor Bike Park is not solely for cyclists; Bisig allows just about anything without a motor on the tracks.
Bisig is set to open a second bike shop in Huber Heights in February.
