Millions have been affected by this typhoon and supplies such as food, water and electricity are scarce.

This is why Lea Harvey, who was born in the Philippines and now lives in Cuyahoga Falls, is doing everything she can to help.

Harvey moved to Ohio in 2014, but her whole family still lives in the Philippines.

She was video chatting with her cousin as the storm struck.

"I saw and I heard something throwing on his roof, like big rocks," Harvey described. "I heard all of the noises of the wind."

Harvey was left feeling helpless with her family thousands of miles away.

"I don’t know what to do," she recalled. "So I told my husband I'm gonna make a way to help my Philippines.”

She decided to sell her homemade spring rolls on Facebook to help those in her home country.

Spring rolls are a traditional dish in her family. Harvey's mother made them for every major holiday.

So far, dozens of people have supported her efforts by placing orders.

“I got so overwhelmed. I’m like 'oh my gosh,' I only thought a few people would order to add to my fundraising but people are ordering 12 pieces, 20 pieces, 30 pieces and they keep adding," she said. "I’m like 'ok, ok that will help a lot.'”

She’s excited to share her culture with people here in Ohio while helping those in need in the Philippines.

“It will break your heart," she said. "Literally, they don’t have anything left.“

If you would like to order some spring rolls or donate directly to Harvey’s relief fund, you can message her on Facebook.

"That’s our way to help. Not just our village but the entire province,” she said.
