Stroud is the fourth Buckeye in four seasons to earn a trip to New York. Stroud is the eighth finalist from Ohio State since 1982, joining Keith Byars (1984), Eddie George (1995), Orlando Pace (1996), Troy Smith (2006), Dwayne Haskins (2018), Justin Fields (2019) and Chase Young (2019).

Prior to 1982, only the Heisman Trophy winner was invited to New York City.

The 2021 winner will be announced Saturday.

Joining Stroud will be Alabama’s Bryce Young, Michigan’s Aiden Hutchinson and Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett.

There have been seven times the Heisman Trophy has been awarded to a player from Ohio State — Les Horvath (1944), Vic Janowicz (1950), Howard Cassidy (1955), Archie Griffin (1974 and 1975), Eddie George (1995) and Troy Smith (2006).

Last week, Stroud was named the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Year, Quarterback of the Year and Freshman of the Year.

Stroud led the nation’s top offense with 551.4 yards per game and 45.5 points per game. His 3,862 passing yards ranks second in school history and his 38 touchdown passes rank third, according to Ohio State.

Stroud follows Dwayne Haskins and Justin Fields in ensuring that an Ohio State quarterback has won Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year for the fourth-consecutive season.
