Aimee Slater West is a proud football mom.

"They won, and Ethan picked Aidan up. It was so great," said West.

Aimee was filled with joy as she watched her son, No. 65, celebrating one of the biggest wins in Port Clinton's history.

"My son Aidan –– he's been playing football since third or fourth grade. He was a little brave, and before that, it was flag football," said West.

West is a proud football mom who owns Slater's Food and Spirits in Port Clinton.

West's son Aidan and his teammates are heading to the Division 4 state championship after beating Van Wert, the defending division four state champion, 49-21 last week, a victory that stunned many people.

"We are surprised, but glad that all their hard work is paying off, and the coaching staff has been amazing. Mr. Carmen, the head coach, was named coach of the year for our division which makes us very proud," said the proud mom.

The lakeside town is buzzing with excitement. All over town, you'll find stores with painted windows showing support for the Port Clinton team.

"They've done good in past years, but this is the best," said Clifford Hart, a Port Clinton resident.

Port Clinton has already won more games in a single season than any team in the program's history.

The team needs one more win to make it into the state championship. That's a game Aimee West will not miss.

"I feel very good about going to this big game. It's Euclid. It's in Euclid, east side of Cleveland," said West.
