MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — Ghost stories and urban legends in Ohio that you might not know about are featured in a comic book.

What You Need To Know

  • Several artists in the Greater Cincinnati area came together to retell some of the urban legends through cartoon characters

  • Six scary stories are featured in the comic book called the "Cabinet of Curiosities"

  • Each story is based on something that happened in the Cincinnati area including what happened to artist and editor Kat Klockow

Klockow doesn’t need ghost stories for Halloween this year; she said she lived one.

She said it all happened at the Sorg Opera House in Middletown. It's a 130-year-old theater that was recently restored.

Klockow said she volunteered to help revamp the building and that’s when she saw a ghost.

“Standing in the middle, I caught her walking up the staircase. She was a 20-something-year-old lady with black, bobbed hair wearing a to the nines flappers outfit,” said Klockow.

That's when she got to work, turning her creepy ghost story into a creepy ghost comic book.

“Did she really give me a tour through the halls? No, but I like to think it’d be cool if she did,” said Klockow.

Klockow, an editor and artist, got on her computer and drew herself and the ghost she saw doing just that.

“She’s guiding me through the Sorg Opera House and its highlight locations and introducing me to all the different ghosts that are said to haunt the halls of the Sorg Opera House,” said Klockow.

She joined a group of artists and her story became one of six in the comic series called the “Cabinet of Curiosities.”

“This is our second year, and it features tri-state ghost stories, urban legends and creepy creatures, retold by local artists,” said Klockow.

They're ghost stories in the book that to some are very real.

“I think of ghosts as living history,” said Klockow.
