LEBANON, Ohio — On a cool October day in downtown Lebanon, families gather at the LM&M Railroad to embark on a special journey.
“Things are changing and we are celebrating,” said manager Rochelle Collins.
This time of year, pumpkins, leaves and Halloween décor transform the railroad into the Pumpkin Patch Express, a special fall event for passengers of all ages.
The two-hour round trip takes visitors on a scenic ride in restored historic passenger trains.
“Some of them date back to the 1920s,” said conductor Brad Kunze. “We restore them, they are in great shape and people can ride on the train and get an experience of what train travel was like back in the day.”
While aboard, balloon artists entertain travelers as they head to a special layover at a fun-filled pumpkin patch. Once at their destination, a hay maze, pumpkins, fall treats and face painting are on site for guests to enjoy.
“It's jam-packed with family fun,” said Collins. “We are so excited to offer the Pumpkin Patch Express again this year and hope it provides families with great memories and a sense of happiness for the season.”
The event also features hayrides at the station once passengers return from the pumpkin patch.
The Pumpkin Patch Express runs every weekend through October. Tickets can be purchased online.
Come November, LM&M Railroad will be transformed for the holiday season. LM&M Railroad is operated by the Cincinnati Scenic Railway, a non-profit organization.
