COLUMBUS, Ohio — Although the Columbus-based band Moviola has consistently turnout out music over the years, Friday marks the first time they'll perform on stage in 13 years.

What You Need To Know

  • The band has put out 10 albums over the last 25 years

  • Moviola reunites Friday at the Wexner Center for the Arts

  • The group just released new music, Broken Rainbows, its 10th album

“Most of the bands we knew would make a couple of records and that would be it, you know, and see if they got anywhere. We just kept going and taught ourselves how to do it,” said Moviola founding member Jake Housh.

Housh said it's a special feeling working with the same five friends for more than 25 years.

The group just released new music, Broken Rainbows, its 10th album.

Housh called it a "sign of the times" record that reflects on the isolation we've all felt over the last two years.

“For us, it's been a great way to process the experience we've had. It's always been a way for us to kinda do a group therapy kind of thing and work through stuff that might be bothering us or you know something we need to work out,” said Housh.

For Jerry Dannemiller, who shares vocal duties with Housh, performing at the Wexner Center Mershon Auditorium is a homecoming of sorts.

“I use to work at the Wexner oddly enough. But a few of us actually worked at Ohio State for many years so the ability to come back here and play at the Wexner Center for the Arts is a really, really special thing for us,” said Dannemiller.

Many musicians will tell a band is like a marriage, there are highs and lows.

But in Moviola's case, although the years have passed by and a new generation has been added into the mix, the original core remains intact.

“I think at the root of it is friendship, we're all great friends. We've been through ups and downs together. We know each other's families and kids,” said Dannemiller.

“We've all lived here for over 30 years. So this is hometown and this is a great privilege to play here and we've very excited,” said Housh.

Moviola will perform its entire new album Friday at 8 p.m. at the Mershon Theatre at the Wexner Center for the Arts.
