COLUMBUS, Ohio — No matter the temperature, the work doesn’t stop for one food distribution center.

What You Need To Know

  • Over the last few days, Ohio has seen temperatures in the mid 80s to low 90s

  • Some days have felt closer to 100 degrees with the heat index

  • LifeCare Alliance is urging people to check in on their neighbors and the elderly because of the heat this week

LifeCare Alliance in central Ohio delivers Meals-On-Wheels to Franklin, Madison, Marion, Champaign and Logan counties.

“Meals-On-Wheels have to go out everyday because people depend on a hot meal,” said President and CEO Chuck Gehring.

Gehring said the volunteers' jobs are two-fold during extreme weather.

“We do a check up on them,” said Gehring. “So we are making sure they’re doing OK in this hot, hot weather.”

LifeCare Alliance has around 7,000 active volunteers. Sandi Blunt is one of them.

“Just the connection with them, when they light up when you come to the door, a familiar face,” said Blunt. “That’s important.”

She’s been volunteering for more than a decade. Rain, shine, warm or cold, her work doesn’t stop.

“It’s pretty important to get them their meals,” said Blunt.

LifeCare Alliance is urging people to check in on their neighbors and the elderly because of the heat this week. They are always looking for volunteers. For more info visit: https://www.lifecarealliance.org/volunteer/
