CLEVELAND — The Greek Food Festival at Saints Constantine and Helen Cathedral is a staple in the Cleveland Heights community.

What You Need To Know

  • The Greek Food Festival convenes at Saints Constantine and Helen Cathedral each year since 1957
  • The festival features Greek foods and desserts

  • The festival goes through Sunday, Aug. 22

"It's a fundraiser. It's also a celebration of our Greek heritage and it works for us," said Father Stephen Callos.

Callos has been with the church for 39 years and looks forward to the event each year.

There's lots of food.

"My favorite food is the fried cheese. The saganaki. That's my favorite. And I love the souvlaki sandwich, which is considered a shish-ki-bob sandwich. There's also a gyro sandwich and there's also chicken souvlaki sandwiches," said Callos.

There are also other activities like a church tour and Greek dancers.

The festival did look a little different compared to other years though.

To help keep everyone safe because of COVID-19, the flea market was canceled and more seating was added outdoors for social-distanced dining.

Last year, the festival was held as a drive-thru event because of the pandemic.

Callos said they're happy to have people back in person this year.

Despite the change, Callos said it's still a great way to bring the community together.

"The parishioners work together. People of all different socio-economic statuses work together. It's really a great uniting event for the parish," said Callos.

The festival ends Sunday.
