COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio's sales tax holiday has officially kicked off and businesses across the state are ready to welcome back-to-school shoppers.

Jennifer Tomlinson is the owner of “Ink My Logo” in Circleville.

She said she was at her store until 11 p.m. Thursday preparing for the weekend. 

“I was tagging and putting a bunch of stuff out,” said Tomlinson. “I wanted to have a bunch of stuff here for sales tax weekend.”

This weekend, shoppers in 11 different states can buy certain types of school supplies and clothes with no tax.

The small business owner said the sales tax holiday attracts customers. 

“Sales tax weekend has really helped us a lot. It helps us bring in a lot of the locals, it helps support the local businesses. It’s really like another Black Friday,” said Tomlinson.

Tomlinson said her business like many small businesses struggled during the pandemic.

“People weren’t sure if people were going back to school or if there were going to be sporting events.”

But she credits the local community for its support. 

“They’ll come back and say, ‘Oh, I got that at “Ink My Logo” and then they’re like ‘Hey, we want the same shirt as so and so got.’”
