TOLEDO, Ohio — A University of Toledo football player who came to Ohio from Australia five years ago has found a passion not only for football but theatre and music too.
Bailey Flint was inspired by his teammate to pursue music four months ago.
“I just kind of picked up the ukulele and was playing around and then I ended up writing a song and putting it on my Instagram," said Flint. "My friend sent it to one of his friends and he said, 'you know, this guy should maybe try and do this.'"
That friend happened to be a music producer in Florida.
"I was able to kind of build a bit of a network from my first teammate that introduced me to his friend in Florida and built a big group or team that's situated around me now to help me with developing on my music.”
Flint is no stranger to performing.
He's finishing his master's degree in film and theatre. He already has two undergraduate degrees in theatre and media communications.
Flint is working hard on his music during the football off-season. When the season starts, he'll focus on football games while his team edits the music he recorded earlier.
“I wanted to make sure that I got all this work done now so that come football season I don’t worry about any of it and my people in Florida will just post it all up for me so I don’t even think about it. It just gets released,” Flint said.
With his graduation set for December, Flint dreams of taking his football career to the next level in the NFL.
“Initially, I want to, of course, like everyone have a try out for the NFL and as long as I have a good season this year I should have a possibility and chance to go just like everyone else in the senior class.”
Right now, Flint said he's just making music for fun but hopes to pursue acting and singing full-time when his football career is over.
He has three songs out now with more on the way.
“I was like you know what, let me try to dig into the story bank and find some of my own experiences and put them into a short little project and release that for people to listen to. I’ve compiled a five-song EP with a start to finish storyline in it, talking again about a few different heartbreaks and then also kind of finding a new love at the end," said Flint.
You can listen to the 'Heartbreak Club' July 23. You can watch Flint punt this season at the University of Toledo football games.
