CINCINNATI — Kings Island amusement park announced Thursday it's cutting park hours, citing a shortage in workers.

The park will close two hours earlier, staying open between 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. until June 10. Season passholders can enter the park at 10:30 a.m.

"We want to be sure we are delivering a fun and memorable experience but like a wide range of industries, the availability of labor continues to be a challenge, and our park is not immune," park officials wrote in a press release.

Kings Island said it will be adding more than 50 full-time, year-round positions with benefits on the food and beverage team. Wages for 2021 seasonal employees and part-time wages for ages 16 and older will be increased to $15 an hour.

Kings Island is the second Ohio amusement park to cut hours. Last week, Cedar Point decided to close every Tuesday and Wednesday in June to make up for the staff shortage.

Cedar Point increased wages to $20 an hour for seasonal and part-time positions as well as offered a $500 seasonal sign-on bonus; however, the park said it still can't find enough employees.

The annoucement comes after fights broke out at Kings Island over the weekend, forcing the park to close down early. The park said it will be increasing security in partnership with the Mason Police Department to keep the park safe and identify the people who caused the fights.

Kings Island's Soak City Water Park opens this weekend. Reservations are required to enter, but none are available for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
