COLUMBUS, Ohio — The summer travel season kicks off in just a few weeks and today is "Ohio Tourism Day."

After more than a year of pandemic living, the state is banking on people being bitten by the "travel bug" after spending a lot of time indoors. Ohio's tourism agency, under the umbrella of the state's Development Services Agency, is launching a $4 million marketing campaign to capture an audience looking for adventure.

Gov. Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine sat down with Spectrum News to talk about what residents can do around Ohio this summer.

DeWine said last year, state parks saw the most traffic they've ever seen as people searched for a way to get out, and he's encouraging Ohioans to do it again.

"We have parks all over the state," DeWine said, including Wayne National Forest and Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

DeWine tuned in from the Clifton Mill, "home of the Wright Brothers."

"You can go visit the Wright Brothers bicycle shop," DeWine said. "There's the Air Force Museum — people from all over the world come to this magnificant Air Force Museum."

The DeWines said their favorite spot is always home, but anything dealing with history is a must-stop for them.
