COLUMBUS, Ohio — One of Ohio’s oldest women is celebrating her 108th birthday by receiving 108 birthday cards from students from her alma mater.

What You Need To Know

  • Geraldine Henry is celebrating 108 years

  • She is receiving a letter from Governor DeWine as well as cards from students at Cedarville University

  • Henry has lived through two global pandemics and everything in between

  • Henry called the cards “beautiful” and was happy to receive the birthday wishes

Henry lives in London at Sisters Senior Living where she has a special bond with her caretakers. They made her day special by setting up a party on the patio with guests from Cedarville University — her alma mater.

They came bearing gifts including a new university T-shirt, blanket and 108 birthday cards from students — all for the oldest living Cedarville alumnus.

“I hope you feel very blessed today,” one of the cards read.

And what did she think of the cards?

“Beautiful,” Henry said.

Two of her caregivers have been taking care of her since 2014 and were visibly emotional to see this special day unfold.

“I just love her,” nurse’s aide Regina Conley said. “Just being with her for so long.”

“She’s just really a special person,” House Manager Angel Rodgers said. “She has a great attitude, love listening to her stories when she talks to us about them. She puts a smile on everybody’s face.”

Henry also received a special letter and handwritten note from Gov. Mike DeWine.

Roscoe Smith, director of Gift Planning at Cedarville University, said it was very important for the university to honor one of its favorite donors, who has a scholarship in her name.

“As residents of Cedarville, I think it’s just an even more special touch that he’s recognizing a graduate of Cedarville University and somebody who spent their whole life in the state of Ohio serving in the profession of education,” Smith said.

No party would be complete without the birthday song, something Geraldine was excited to sing herself. She put a smile on the face of all in attendance.
