ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — If someone from Ohio has been on social media in the past few months, the odds are high they have seen the social media influencer, Sir Yacht.
What You Need To Know
- Joey Kinsley is a social media influencer from Rocky River, Ohio
- He gained popularity on TikTok during the pandemic
- Kinsley is now working with brands as a full-time influencer
"Around last year, with TikTok, with everything shutting down, with the quarantine, and things like that, I started hopping on TikTok and making videos centered around Ohio and Midwest stereotypes and that just started blowing up out of nowhere," said Joey Kinsley, better known by his social media handle Sir Yacht.
Kinsley’s videos became so popular that cities both in Ohio and other states began paying him to make videos.
"I go around to towns, predominately in Ohio, but I've done Louisiana,” he said. “I'm going to Kentucky and towns in Michigan, Florida here soon and Georgia. Just to promote and make videos for those towns. So I do that on my social media so I know I can get viewership for towns, colleges, whatever I'm working for."
Kinsley's journey to social media stardom started long before the pandemic.
"My first-ever video on Twitter got on SportsCenter Snapchat, so then I was like ‘wow I have some really high bars to set right now,’" Kinsley said.
He spent years working in corporate America, and knew it didn't make him happy, so he began creating content.
"Once I see an opportunity, I go and attack it and there's nothing that's going to stop me,” Kinsley said. “I don't know how I'm going to get there, but my goal is to the greatest entertainer content creator of all time and I'm not going to stop until I get that goal."
Now, all of Kinsley's hard work is paying off.
He's officially a full-time social media influencer with nearly 330,000 followers on TikTok, 13,000 followers on Instagram, and 40,000 followers on Twitter.
"It's all about diversification,” he said. “Like, if I can have a big following on a multitude of platforms, that's when brands start to take notice and come in and work with you and that's when you really start engaging with your fan base."
Despite his success, Kinsley still has high aspirations.
"I'd love to host my own TV show, whether it's on a network or with a FanDuel or something, or Barstool Sports or something like that, and then just continue to monetize my platforms including YouTube,” he said. “Work with brands year-round, have some sort of TV show, oh, and music. I'm in a band called Maui Ski Club so I'd love to make that go really well this year."
