CINCINNATI — Aziza Love, 25, has always enjoyed collecting cassettes.
She’s been shopping here at Everybody’s Records and CDs since she was a child.
“I just remember coming here with my mom looking at Prince vinyls and I was always drawn to the cassette tapes because I got this amazing boombox for like 10 bucks at the thrift (store),” Love said.
Not only does she enjoy listening to music, but she’s also a musician and a well-known singer in Cincinnati.
“When I was 16, I decided I didn’t want to work for anybody else,” she said. “I didn’t want to do anything but hire myself to do what I feel like I was put on this earth to do, which is sing songs, share light with people and share beauty.”
Love also has her own clothing line.
It’s a passion that she said started as a child.
“We didn’t grow up having a ton of money or a ton of things, but what we did have was creativity. What we did have was some sewing needles and the passion to just express ourselves,” she said.
She said she hopes people feel just as free and comfortable while in her clothes.
“That’s what I want people to experience when they wear my clothing, just pure expression, pure personality, magic, all of that,” she said.
Love is getting ready for her performance at Nostalgia Wine and Jazz Lounge.
She’s performing her song Smooth Criminal.
“Every time I get to play, especially in this space, Nostalgia. It’s always a good feeling and community is extremely important to me so I’m rocking with Sound the Alarm Music Group. We’ve been playing together for years and you can tell because it just feels good," Love said.
Over the past couple of years, she’s released an album, been featured in a Netflix film and is currently working on projects with singers across the world.
She said she hopes to do even more in the future.
“I see myself doing a lot of traveling, a lot of creating, and working with people that I admire since birth. There’s a lot of greats out there that I’m excited to work with,” she said.
