AKRON — Chances are you have probably played a few rounds of putt putt golf.

What You Need To Know

  • Akron's Lock 3 Park is offering 'Arctic Putt-Putt" to the public

  • Arctic Putt-Putt is the same as traditional miniature golf but it's outside during the winter

  • Lock 3 Park also has igloos available for the public to rent

But have you ever played arctic putt putt?

It's the same as traditional miniature golf but it’s all done outside in the cold at Lock 3 Park in downtown Akron.

“So we put it under these tents, and we themed it in the arctic because it is northeast Ohio in January," said Lock 3 Coordinator Chris Griffith.

This is the first year this “cool” family activity has been hosted in the city of Akron.

“We decided to try to bring this putt-putt course out to give families something to do in this time of year,” Griffith said

The main goal is to provide families with a way to get out and have fun safely during the pandemic, Griffith said.

"It’s very safe. The clubs are sanitized after each use. The balls are sanitized as well. So you can come down, play nine holes and walk around. We still have a good amount of lights up in Lock 3 and we have some art pieces up on Main Street and there is music playing throughout the park so it’s just a good environment.”

But if arctic putt-putt isn’t your thing, you can also rent an igloo at the park and bring food and drinks to enjoy from nearby restaurants, Griffith added.

“You can come out and sit under the lights and sit under the beautiful sky here in downtown and enjoy card games and board games anything like that. We have some games and we encourage you to bring games of your own,” Griffith said.

You can play arctic putt-putt from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Thursday through Sunday.
