CINCINNATI — Makeup has always been something that Cincinnati-native Morgan Owens has enjoyed.

What You Need To Know

  • Cincinnati-native Morgan Owens recently partnered with the Cincinnati Herald newspaper to create Herald Beauty

  • Herald Beauty is a new section in the newspaper that focuses on beauty tips and much more

  •  Morgan was inspired to create this section to help empower and encourage women to embrace their beauty

“It started when I was a little girl watching my mother play in makeup and also learning that makeup also doesn’t mean that you don’t feel beautiful,” Owens said. “Because I love good skincare. I love not wearing makeup as well. But it’s part of the fun of being a woman.”

It was her love for makeup that inspired her to partner with the Cincinnati Herald newspaper to create Herald Beauty, a new beauty section.

“If you Google beauty there are no images of minority women that pop up and I wanted to change that narrative. I know the Cincinnati Herald really wants to change that narrative. that women of color should be included,” said Owens, the Herald Beauty Chief Beauty Consultant.

Owens is currently working on her first issue that publishes this week.

It will primarily focus on makeup.

“Just some tips and tricks from women of color that have done their research, that are often willing to try new things as well and just have fun with makeup,” she said.

This initiative has been a dream in the making and it’s something that Owens said she's proud of.

“Now, to actually be a part of something that empowers and encourages women of color to embrace not only their natural beauty but also to enhance it, because it’s for fun. It’s a dream come true,” she said. “So I’m just so honored and so blessed to be a part of this trailblazing initiative."

And it doesn't just stop with the beauty section.

Owens said she has several plans for the future.

“We want to do, when it’s safe, pop-up beauty events. Pop-up beauty brunches. Educational tutorials about natural hair- everything under the sun,” Owens said. “So a lot of energy, a lot of community building and a lot of beauty.”
