DAYTON, Ohio — Ohio is a state full of proud veterans of the United States military. Some of them continue their careers after retiring from active duty to serve other veterans. For Kimberly Frisco, that’s exactly what she has done for years — and now she’s being honored by being inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.
“I am so honored to be recognized with this award,” Frisco said. “But I like to tell people over and over again — it’s not one person that gets this award. Everything that I’ve done and all of my activities with veterans, I could not have done it without the other volunteers and other individuals that love and serve veterans as much as I do.”
Frisco served 20 years in the Air Force, starting and ending her career at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
She currently serves as the executive director of the Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission, a role she recently accepted after spending the past 12 years with the Dayton VA Medical Center.
She never knew she would spend her entire career serving veterans, but says there’s nothing else she’d rather be doing.
“I have a passion for serving veterans,” Frisco said. “I love serving veterans. I want to help them get the services they need. They served and protected our country. We deserve to help them with everything and that’s what we’re here for.”
Frisco has helped with many initiatives to help veterans through the years. One of her more proud accomplishments was establishing a Veterans Food Pantry at the Dayton VA Medical Center.
“When we started that, those veterans that came to our food pantry, never sought help from another food pantry,” she said. “They were comfortable getting it with other veterans.”
She has also helped provide veterans vehicles in partnership with Progressive Insurance, honored Korean War Vets, and continually ensures veterans have access to healthcare and other resources in her current role.
“Really for everyone here, including myself,” she said. “It really is a labor of love and appreciation of our fellow American veterans.”
Frisco says she is extremely proud and honored to be inducted this year and wanted to make sure to thank those who helped support her career.
“I really, really could not have done anything I have done without the love and support of my husband,” Frisco said. “Because I would tell my husband hey I’m off again, late evening or on the weekend. And he’d either hold the fort down or he would come join me. But he always supported me and knew that was my passion.”
