DAYTON, Ohio — The President of the United States has announced he will be visiting two areas of the state.
What You Need To Know
- President Donald Trump will be visiting Ohio in two locations on Sept. 21
- Trump will make stops in Vandalia and Swanton to host campaign rallies in one of the most important battleground states
- Sen. Rob Portman said the visit will be productive toward the President’s re-election campaign
- Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley was critical toward the President’s plan, stating he should focus more handling the pandemic
President Donald Trump plans to fly into Vandalia on Monday afternoon, and deliver remarks on Fighting for the American Worker at Wright Brothers Aero.
Then, shortly after, the President will head off to Swanton for the Great American Comeback Event.
At the grand opening of One Fifteen's Living Center in Dayton, Mayor Nan Whaley, Sen. Rob Portman, and Congressman Mike Turner were all on hand to celebrate a great step forward for the Miami Valley toward treating people dealing with opioid addiction and substance use disorder.
Both Whaley and Portman gave their thoughts on the President’s planned visit.
Portman is looking forward to the President’s visit and thinks it will be productive toward the President’s re-election campaign.
“Ohio is important in this presidential election, some have said Ohio is no longer a swing state, I don’t believe that,” Portman said. "I think Ohio continues to be a state that both candidates need to pay attention to, so it doesn’t surprise me that he’s coming back again. I’ll be in D.C. We have votes on Monday. I’m glad the candidates are paying attention to Ohio because it’s still an important swing state. We are the heart of it all.”
Whaley said Trump’s visit shows that Ohio is up for grabs this election, but was critical of the planned campaign rallies.
She said it shows a lack of leadership in regard to the ongoing pandemic, as she believes there are more important tasks at hand.
“I think we would be most helpful is if he got back to Washington D.C. and got a deal for the federal stimulus package that has been stopped at the White House’s desk since May,” Whaley said. “You know our communities from small businesses, to people that don’t have an unemployment insurance, to cities, are really needing the support and he’s not doing his job and failing again to provide for the American people during this pandemic.”
