VALLEY VIEW, Ohio — Traditions look different this year when it comes to the fall and holiday seasons. However, one longstanding event is on track just in time for fall.

The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad partnered with the Cleveland Clinic to make sure when they opened for rides, they'd be ready.

"The Cleveland Clinic has walked through our cars and made sure we are doing things the best and safest way possible,” said Joe Mazur, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad President and CEO.

The staff recently announced the Fall Flyer will run this year beginning Oct. 1. The Polar Express will take place beginning of November. However, both rides will look a little different.

"Most cars typically have a capacity of 48, and this car is reduced to 20," said Mazur. "So, for Polar Express folks will have to buy a group of six or group of four so you're going to be more than six feet apart."

In addition to limiting capacity, temperature's will be taken prior to boarding and masks are required for all riders and staff. Children under the age of two are not required to wear a mask.

The staff at the railroad are hoping to give their guests a sense of normalcy and still provide those magic moments even with the extra precautions.

"Most things that get handed out will be waiting there so we have touched them the least amount as possible and there is less interaction from our staff and the customer," said Mazur. "So they can enjoy their ride, go to the North Pole and experience Santa because that's what we all want to do."

The Polar Express rides have sold out the last 27 years. The same is expected to happen this year, especially with trains running at half capacity. For ways to gain early access to the tickets click here.
