CINCINNATI, Ohio — Just last week, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County launched Homework Help, a program to assist students with virtual learning.

“As children are transitioning in this kind of strange time right now doing virtual learning, the library wanted to make sure that we were able to help,” said Nate Pelley, manager of Tech Center and MakerSpace.

What You Need To Know

  • The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County launched its Homework Help program

  • The program provides students with virtual learning and homework help

  • It is held Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Pelley is a part of the team that helped organize Homework Help. Through this program, he says the library hopes to help students with any technical issues that they may have.

“We’ll be able to help the students connect to the website, get them connected to the WiFi here,” said Pelley. “We can’t necessarily tutor them, but we can help get them going in the right direction.”

Helping students with the resources they’ll need to be successful is something Pelley says is important to the library.

“There are students out there who maybe don’t have that space at home, they don’t have a WiFi connection, maybe they don’t have a parent or guardian who can help assist them with the needs they would have,” he said. “So, being able to do that at the library is really really important and it really stays on task with what our goals are for this organization.”

Homework Help is currently offered at the library Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until  6 p.m. Pelley says he expects this program to last for a while.

“Right now, we kind of have the idea that we’re going to go at least for the next four to five weeks while CPS is doing their virtual leaning and then we’re going to be flexible after that, and if the demand is there, I’m sure we will continue to do it,” he said.
