COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gov. Mike DeWine tested negative for COVID-19 in a two additional tests Thursday, according to a press release from the Governor's Office.

DeWine was tested prior to his scheduled meeting with President Donald Trump in Cleveland. 

The White House conducted the original antigen test which provides a more rapid result than the PCR test given to DeWine Thursday afternoon, DeWine said in a press briefing.

"The PCR test looks for the specific RNA for the SARS CoV-2—in other words, the genetic material specific for the virus that causes COVID-19," the release says. "This test is known to be extremely sensitive, as well as specific, for the virus."

First Lady Fran DeWine, as well as the DeWine's staff, tested negative, according to the release. 

"The PCR tests for the Fran and Mike DeWine and staff were run two times," the release states. "They came back negative the first time and came back negative when they were run on a second diagnostic platform."

DeWine addressed reporters in a briefing after the announcement of the first diagnosis. He told reporters that he had limited interaction with others, wore masks and practiced social distancing even with memebrs of his family. 

During the briefing, he could not identify how he would have contracted the virus, and said he had no symptoms. 

The rapid test had been ordered by the White House as part of the protocol to greet Trump. DeWine said Ohio doesn't have much experience with rapid tests, and researchers have noted they could produce false-positive results. He said he'll be working with the manufacturer to understand why there were discrepancies between the two types of tests. 

DeWine is expected to hold his coronavirus press briefing Friday.
