CLEVELAND, Ohio — Fall classes at Cuyahoga Community College are set to begin in just over two weeks -- and it's not too late to apply for financial aid.

Spectrum News 1 talked with college officials about how they are making it easier and more affordable for students to enroll.

"We do anticipate an increase in students trying to finalize and settle their enrollment and want to make sure students who are interested have an opportunity to take classes that are open that are available," said Angela Johnson the vice-president of access and inclusion at Cuyahoga Community College.

It's called "Super Saturday" enrollment and it's happening on all four campuses of Cuyahoga Community College — or Tri-C for short — from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on select Saturdays in August. The goal is to help students sign up for classes when they face challenges doing so on their own.

"We think it's helpful for students who may work during the week and may have an opportunity to come in on Saturdays. But we did add a couple this time to provide more services on ground," said Johnson.

Those services include getting help with applying for financial aid and academic counseling. Tri-C officials said this is a great opportunity for anyone considering going back to school, transferring from another school, or taking a gap year because of the pandemic.

"We would like to encourage people to come to Tri-C and look at the programs that we have to offer. We have over 190 programs, more than 1,000 classes," said Jenny Febbo, the vice-president of integrated communications at Tri-C.

If you do visit any of the four campuses for "Super Saturday," enrollment, you will be required to wear a mask. You'll also be subject to a temperature check.

"We have screens in place. We have decals on the floor to promote safe distancing. When you come into the building we're asking everyone to fill out a certification online before they come in, just ask you a couple simple questions about where you've been," said Febbo.

There are two "Super Saturday" enrollment events left for this month — one on August 22 and another on August 29.
