CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Northeast Ohio social services agency recently received a huge donation. It’s a new headquarters, which will allow the organization to continue caring for the community.

    What You Need To Know

    • The new building allows Neighborhood Alliance more room for expanded services and programs

    • The former YMCA was donated to them by the property owner

    • They're hoping to have the building partially opened by the end of the year

“The building is really coming at a perfect time for us to be able to expand services and meet some of the needs that have grown due to COVID-19” said Alicia Foss, president and CEO, Neighborhood Alliance.

Alicia Foss is the president and CEO of the Neighborhood Alliance in Lorain. She says her organization needed more room to expand their services and programs.  Plus, they needed to consolidate their operations into one location.

The organization looked at the former YMCA in Elyria, but the price was too high, until the property owner came forward with the biggest donation they’ve ever received.

Iit’s an amazing gift and we saw the building before he decided to give it to us and had looked at it, fell in love with it, but knew we couldn’t afford it, so when he heard we were interested in the building he really took an interest in what we were doing in the community and how we support our fellow citizens. He really felt a strong desire to give us the building, donate it to us” said Foss. “I was blown away services that they provide for people of all ages and backgrounds. I learned that at any given moment, thousands of lives are supported in one way or another by this amazing group of people.”

In a statement highlighting how impressed he is with the mission of the Neighborhood Alliance, the property owner Dick Bonner said this new opportunity will transform the way that Neighborhood Alliance is able to serve those in need.

“It will give us the ability to expand our home-delivered meals program, which delivers meals to homebound seniors and also people with disabilities throughout the county and in addition to that it will also allow us to expand our child enrichment services. We have two child care centers, so this will help us with the expansion with those programs as well," said Foss.

The Neighborhood Alliance is hoping to have their building partially opened by the end of the year.
