LORAIN, Ohio — Grocery stores across the state continue to see a steady flow of customers, especially with the closing of restaurant dining rooms due to the coronavirus threat.
Fligner’s Market, in Lorain, says they are dedicated to keeping the family-owned store open during this current health crisis.
- Open 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. for seniors to shop
- Family-owned 95 years
- Dedicated to staying open for community
“You have to keep the food supplies open. What we can see happening is possibly limiting how many people come into the store at one time, how many employees are working at one time, but if I have to come here by myself every day and open up so people have food, we’ll do that. We’ll do it a way that’s as safe as possible for everybody. We’ll package up stuff for people, we’ll have stuff ready to go, so people won't have to have contact with people if they choose not to,” said Ben Fligner, owner of Fligner’s Market.
At Fligner’s you could see some seniors wearing facemasks to stay safe. Fligner’s is taking steps to make sure the elderly shop without fear.
“We are opening up six o’clock in the morning til 7 just for senior citizens to come in and be able to shop before we open up the rest of this store, so they can get stuff and feel a little bit more comfortable grabbing their things and going out without having to come in contact with other people,” said Fliger.
Some shoppers say they are glad Fligner’s will remain open, but they have plans just in case.
“My family is prepared to help each other and to help others in our area if they need food,” said Pat Echko, of Sheffield Township.
Besides food, people are worried about toilet paper, which has been flying off the shelves.
“We got more in and proud to say it’s still the same price it always is, we have not raised it one penny,” said Fligner.
The owners of Fligner’s say they can’t believe how well the people are acting under this health crisis.
