COLUMBUS, Ohio- The cancellation of the OHSAA Tournament was tough news for players, coaches and fans who made the drive to the saint john arena to see their teams play.
- OHSAA cancelled games Thursday.
- The tournament was scheduled to go all until Saturday.
- Carroll and West Branch were warming up when the game was cancelled.
The Lady Warriors received a champions treatment as they left Saint John Arena.
Sally and Howard Fowler came to see their granddaughter play after traveling all the way from Florida.
“in fact, our grandson payton was supposed to play in Canton, Ohio for a soccer tournament and they cancelled it too. So we’re not seeing either one of our grandchildren play their sport after we came all the way up here.”
inside the arena, Allison Biery was one of many fans leaving frustrated and confused.
"We all were here anyways so if we’re already here why don’t we just go on with the games."
A similar reaction on the Carroll side, where the an emotional community embraced with hugs.
“They played for the championship last year, so they got a taste of it. So they were coming back this year, and they were confident and they thought they we’re going to do well. And they’ve been playing their best ball,” said Grosselin.
Ken Grosselin is the husband of Carroll's head coach, he feels for the players who won’t get to play for a state championship.
"Wel, it's disappointing, but you’re hoping they’re making these decision for the right reason. And you want everyone to be safe, and there’s been a lot that’s going on the last couple days."
Teams boarding the buses heartbroken, but still champions to their communities.
