NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio– The North Ridgeville police are making sure the crime rate stays low in their community.
According to a new ranking by the National Council for Home Safety and Security, North Ridgeville is the third safest community in the state of Ohio.
- The third safest city in Ohio
- Low crime rate
- Community involvement
“I believe it is you’ve got low crime, I’ve lived here my whole life since I been born moved around a few times, but I would never go no place else,” Says Jerry Brushaber, a North Ridgeville resident.
“It’s a great city to work in, it’s a great city to live in, and I’m really proud of our service personnel and our safety forces are great, ”says Joe Voros, a North Ridgeville resident
The safest city rankings are based on the FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics. North Ridgeville, with a population of 34,000, is the largest community to make the top 3 list of Ohio’s safest cities. In 2018, there were less than ten violent crimes reported in the Cleveland suburb.
Police Chief Mike Freeman has been on the force here in North Ridgeville for ten years; the chief believes teamwork is the reason his town has a low crime rate and is considered a safe city.
“We have a good fire department; we have a good park and recs system; we have assistance to the elderly programs. I look at North Ridgeville and the police department as we are just one store in a mall. So, in other words, for the mall to thrive, all the departments within that mall or that store within the mall have to be successful for people wanting to move here,” says Chief Mike Freeman, North Ridgeville police.
Newly elected Mayor Kevin Corcoran says the community involvement is what makes his town special.
“We’ve had that designation for a number of years now, and I was on council for 12 years, so I’ve been part of that process, but it all comes down to having the safety forces that are doing their job in a great manner to make the community safe but also the community itself being vigilant and seeing things, and then turning that information over to the police department so they can act on it,” says Mayor Kevin Corcoran, North Ridgeville.
Two other northeast Ohio towns top the list. Olmsted Township ranks number one, while Brecksville is ranked as the second safest community in the state.
