STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — Just because it's wintertime, it doesn't mean you can't have fun outdoors.
Strongsville, Ohio is home to the tallest and fastest toboggan ice chutes in the state.
- The toboggan chutes can reach speeds up to 50 miles per hour
- Four people can ride on the wooden toboggan and plunge 70 feet down the chutes
- The toboggan chutes are open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until March at the Cleveland Metroparks Chalet in Strongsville
Four people can ride on the wooden toboggan and plunge 70 feet down the toboggan chutes at Cleveland Metroparks Chalet.
The 700-foot chute can reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. There's even a speed sensor to prove it.
The family-friendly fast ride has been taking passengers down the steep hill for more than 50 years.
"It's a pretty fun, exhilarating ride, especially if you like fast rides," said Amy McRitchie, chalet manager at Cleveland Metroparks Chalet.
To take the plunge, it's $12 for adults or $10 for children.
Every rider is required to wear gloves or mittens and they'll have to brave walking up 108 steps to the top of the hill.
Snow or no snow, the Chalet welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors every winter season.
"We don't need snow necessarily to operate, we do manufacture an ice base so we can operate in temperatures up to 50 degrees," said McRitchie. "It's very nostalgic, I mean, it's very old-fashion, a toboggan itself. It gives you an opportunity to get outdoors, enjoy the speed, enjoy the snow."
The toboggan chutes are open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until March 8.
